Course Overview
Hazardous substances commonly found in the workplace can have substantial impact on employees. It is important to know and understand various hazardous substances and its effects on the human body. The human body has many different interacting sub-systems. It is important to have some understanding of the function and features of these systems to appreciate the effects that exposure to occupational hygiene hazards and in particular exposure to hazardous substances may have.
Course Learning Outcome
- To recognise the health effects arising from occupational exposure to hazardous substances based on relevant basic toxicology concepts and sources of information
- To analyse the factors which impact the extent of harmful effects on the body systems and target organs
- To anticipate the risks and advise on control measures to prevent ill-health effects due to exposure to hazardous substances at the workplace
