Qualitative Respirator Fit Test Timer
A practical timer for conducting qualitative respirator fit testing exercises, including the 5-minute respirator wear period, 60-second test exercises, squeeze reminders and simple progress tracking.
Use this timer to support the sequence and timing of qualitative fit test exercises.
Qualitative fit testing requires a structured sequence of exercises and regular challenge agent delivery. This tool helps the fit test operator keep time, prompt squeeze intervals and remind the test subject to breathe through the mouth and report taste detection immediately.
Start respirator wear time
Use the 5-minute wear timer before starting the fit test sequence, where this is required by your selected qualitative fit test protocol.
Run exercise sequence
The timer runs seven 60-second exercises: normal breathing, deep breathing, turning head side to side, moving head up and down, talking, bending over and final normal breathing.
Prompt squeeze reminders
Select 5, 10 or 15 squeezes per interval. The tool prompts squeeze reminders during the exercise sequence without changing your existing workflow.
Fit Test Timer
Select the squeeze count, complete the respirator wear period if required, then start the qualitative fit test exercise sequence.
Fit Test Controls
Operator Reminders
The tool supports timing, but the fit test operator remains responsible for the protocol.
The timer follows the same functional sequence as the original tool: select squeeze count, optionally run the 5-minute respirator wear timer, start the fit test, receive squeeze prompts, and complete the exercise sequence.
Before starting
- Confirm the wearer has donned the respirator correctly.
- Complete user seal checks according to the respirator manufacturer’s instructions.
- Confirm the correct test agent and sensitivity screening requirements.
- Select the number of squeezes per interval based on your selected protocol.
During the test
- Keep the hood and nebuliser arrangement consistent with the selected test method.
- Ensure the wearer follows each exercise as displayed by the timer.
- Deliver additional challenge agent when prompted by the squeeze reminder.
- Stop the test if the wearer detects the test agent or if the test conditions are invalid.
A timer does not determine whether a respirator fits.
Proper fit testing depends on the correct test method, competent operator, appropriate respirator, user instructions, sensitivity screening, challenge agent concentration and valid test conditions.
Not a fit test record
This page does not create or store formal fit test records. Results should be documented separately according to your respiratory protection programme.
Not a substitute for training
Operators should be trained in the selected fit test protocol, respirator limitations and correct pass/fail criteria.
Not suitable for all respirators
Qualitative fit testing has specific applicability limits. Use quantitative fit testing where the respirator type, protection factor or programme requirement makes it necessary.
