Simple field guide
A noise map is a communication tool. Use it with field notes, measurement strategy and professional interpretation.
Use representative conditions
Record whether the process was normal, intermittent, idle, unusually noisy or affected by maintenance or production changes.
Mark source and position
Name the source, operator position or area clearly so the map can be compared against the site layout.
Prioritise controls
Use the red and yellow zones to focus on source reduction, enclosure, isolation, maintenance and access control.
Continue with the occupational noise toolkit.
Use this noise map together with the exposure calculator, field diary, instrument checklist and noise control tools.
